A story of a girl who survived an atomic bomb4
※7 People kept dying, but they were unidentifiable. Their faces were burned and swollen, and that made them unidentifiable. The first graders were all the more, because I didn’t know their faces. When parents asked for their children, I couldn’t answer anything because I couldn’t identify them.
※8 A person facing down desires water, but the doctor’s orders were not to give water
to people that were promised to live. On the other hand, when the doctor allowed water, that meant foreseeing the death of the patient. They said , “Oh that was good, I want
some more.” I would sorrily give him the last water I had. People who didn’t have wounds
on their mouth can ask for water, but people with bad injuries of their mouth could only gesture. When I
was told to give water to them, I would shed tears, just to know that person won’t
survive.
