Overview of the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe) (General Incorporated Association)

Purpose

The purpose of this organization is to contribute to the realization of a world without Nuclear Weapons by building networks with various stakeholders, contributing to global peace and development, and promoting local self-governance, economy, and education.

Business Activities

  1. Research and study projects contributing to the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of global peace
  2. Research and study projects on creating new policies for sustainable development
  3. Human resource development, education, and awareness projects contributing to the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of global peace
  4. Information dissemination projects aimed at expanding supporters and promoting action toward the abolition of nuclear weapons
  5. Projects for forming communities that act proactively toward solving peace issues
  6. Projects for accumulating peace-related resources
  7. Holding of conferences and policy proposal projects related to the preceding items
  8. Promotion projects for local self-governance, economy, and education related to the preceding items
  9. Other projects necessary to achieve the purpose of this organization

2001

May 14, 2001
Established the "Hiroshima International Peace building Network" with the aim of building networks with UN organizations and others.

2003

May 28, 2003
Reorganized the "Hiroshima International Peace building Network" into the "Hiroshima Peace Contribution Network" to support the activities of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Hiroshima Office.
July 15, 2003
United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Hiroshima Office opened.

2005 - 2020

November 2005 – March 2020
Provided reconstruction support in the education and health sectors in Cambodia, utilizing JICA Grassroots Technical Cooperation Projects, as support for sustainable peacebuilding.

2011

November 4, 2011
Announced the "Hiroshima for Global Peace" Plan.

2020

April 1, 2020
Reorganized the "Hiroshima Peace Contribution Network" into the "Hiroshima Peace Promotion Network."

2020 - 2021

April 2020 – March 2021
Expansion of operations through the implementation of project marking 75 years since the atomic bombings and the end of the war.

2021

April 1, 2021
The "Hiroshima Peace Promotion Network" was reorganized and the "Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe)" was launched.
