Hiroshima for Global Peace

Thinking about Peace and the Future from the Orizuru Tower

Welcoming and Greeting People

This cafe welcomes many people with a rich menu that uses a variety of ingredients from Hiroshima and the Setouchi region.

The Orizuru Tower is crowded with many tourists from all over the world. The view from the rooftop observatory named “Hiroshima Hills” is spectacular; though it’s not the only reason for its popularity.

Peace Memorial Park is surely a suitable place for meditating on peace, but it was pointed out that the visitors didn’t have much space to rest. The “Akushu Café,” which is on the 1st floor of the Orizuru Tower, is right next to the Atomic Bomb Dome. It is also located between the Peace Memorial Park and the downtown of the city of Hiroshima, Kamiyacho and Hondori. So, after walking from the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum to the Atomic Bomb Dome, you can refresh yourselves and enjoy the city of Hiroshima. That is the concept of the Akushu Café.

Next to Akushu Café, there is a local souvenir store “Hito to Ki,” which collects about 1,000 Hiroshima branded products. Before bombing, the Atomic Bomb Dome was a show space to expand sales channels for products of Hiroshima as the name of The Industrial Promotion Hall. Thinking of that, it can be said Orizuru Tower has taken over the role of the Atomic Bomb Dome. The tower plays the role of promoting the products of Hiroshima, which was once carried out by the industrial promotion hall.

Thinking about the future of Hiroshima through the Orizuru Tower

In Orizuru Square, digital contents for learning the history of Hiroshima are available. You can also learn how to fold a paper crane and write a message on it.

On the 12th floor of the tower, there is “Orizuru Square” where you can enjoy contents using the latest technology and experience-type attraction “Orizuru Wall.” It is a wall of stacked paper cranes that were made by people from all over the world to express the prayer for peace.

From the roof observation deck “Hiroshima Hills,” you can see the Atomic Bomb Dome and the developed cityscape. The tower, which offers a view of past tragedy and “present” recovery, lets us think of the hope for a more peaceful “future”.

75 years have passed since the bombing, and many of those who actually experienced the misery of the war and the cruelty of the atomic bomb have passed away. How can Hiroshima convey the history to future generations? What should we pass on to the children who will live in the future?

“Orizuru, fly to the sky

Deliver to the heart, over time–”

As Mr. Matsuda entrusted the tower with this verse, the Orizuru Tower reaches into the future from the past.
