Chairperson’s Message
A message from the Chairperson of the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (General Incorporated Association)
Chairperson
Nobuyasu Abe
The Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (General Incorporated Association) was established with 14 founding members and commenced operations on December 1, 2025.
Having experienced the destruction of the first atomic bomb in human history and rising from its ruins, the realization of a peaceful international community free of nuclear weapons is Hiroshima’s mission. We believe that the role of Hiroshima, the atomic-bombed city, is to contribute concretely to this realization.
While the international situation surrounding nuclear weapons is more severe than ever, attention on Hiroshima has increased after the events of the hosting of the G7 Hiroshima Summit of the Japanese Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. It is essential to strengthen the efforts of atomic-bombed Hiroshima so that this year, the 80th anniversary of the bombing and the end of the war, becomes a turning point for accelerating initiatives toward the abolition of nuclear weapons.
For this reason, we decided to incorporate the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace. This step is necessary to establish a mechanism to widely acquire funding, human resources, and the wisdom required for the realization of Hiroshima’s mission from both domestic and international sources, to build a foundation for proactive activities with diverse stakeholders, and to include initiatives focused on activities within the United Nations.
Under the “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan put forth by Hiroshima Prefecture, our organization will further strengthen its collaboration with the Prefecture and foster its commitment to achieving a peaceful international community free of nuclear weapons.
We sincerely request your continued understanding and support for the future endeavors of this organization.
