Hiroshima-ICAN Academy on Nuclear Weapons and Global Security 2022 – Hiroshima Session Day 3
On the third day of the Hiroshima Session, the participants began with a visit to the Hiroshima Prefectural Government Office to meet with Governor Yuzaki. The group heard a presentation by Governor Yuzaki on the efforts of Hiroshima Prefecture for peace, followed by a Q&A session. During the Q&A session, the group asked the Governor questions from various perspectives, such as “How did the Hiroshima Prefectural Government support the A-bomb survivors?” and shared their own diverse opinions with the governor.
Next, the participants visited Hiroshima City Hall and had a courtesy visit with Mayor Matsui. During the visit, the participants asked questions such as “What is being done for peace in cooperation between Hiroshima City and Nagasaki City, the second city to be exposed to the atomic bomb?” Afterwards a lively Q&A session ensued.
Next, the participants visited the office of the Chugoku Shimbun (local newspaper company). At the Chugoku Shimbun, Ms. Yumi Kanazaki, Director of the Peace Media Center, gave a lecture on “The Role of the Media in Passing on the Reality of the A-bombing”.
In the evening, the participants visited ANT-Hiroshima, an NGO in Hiroshima, to hear about efforts to promote peace on the private sector level, interact with young activists who are active in promoting peace from Hiroshima, and exchange opinions on various topics not limited to peace and nuclear abolition.
