Hiroshima-ICAN Academy Day 2
2nd day has started from the Hibakusha testimony by Ms. Keiko Ogura. She was 8 years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. She was one and half mile away from ground zero.
She told us about the reality of use of a nuclear weapon and the reason why she stared the testimony activity. She also told us that many Hibakusha hided that they were Hibakusha because they were afraid of discrimination after the bombing such as the marriage discrimination.
She said, “Hibakusha speaks out in order never to repeat “evil”, use of a nuclear weapon” and asked the participants to speak out from your side not only hear the testimony”.
Keiko also had a comment, “Hiroshima is a place not only tell the story of Hiroshima but also listen to the story of people around the world”. Through her activities, she met many foreigners who suffered by nuclear tests or came to Hiroshima just after ending the conflict in their country.
