Hiroshima for Global Peace

Hiroshima-ICAN Academy Day 7

At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb in human history was dropped on Hiroshima. It is said that around 140,000 people (roughly 40% of the population) died by the end of December, 1945. 7th day of Hiroshima-ICAN Academy that was August 6 started to attend the Peace Memorial Ceremony. 

After attending the ceremony, there was the session with the Ambassador of Mexico to Japan. The Ambassador mentioned that Mexico deeply involved in establishing Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and Caribbean (Tready of Tlatelalco) and OPANAL (Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean). She told us, “ Countries that possess nuclear weapons should be stigmatized. And it is important to prohibit producing, processing and using of nuclear weapons. 

The session with Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, Hidehiko Yuzaki was to discuss interactively with participants. The participants asked the governor, “ How do you engage in national politics? And do you have any challenge?”. They also asked, “It is interesting to the Hiroshima’s initiative to involve business sectors to peace such as World Business Conference for World Peace. How did business sectors react to this conference?”. 

In the evening, the participants visited Peace Boat, where a peace concert by a-bombed piano and a-bombed violin was held. The memorable day for the participants ended with the wonderful concert.
