We got the news that U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres would visit Hiroshima.
Hiroshima has asked for leaders from various fields to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki so that they understand the realities of the atomic bombing and take a new step forward toward the abolition of nuclear weapons. I feel honored that Mr. Guterres would visit Hiroshima for the first time.
When I met him in NY last April, he indicated his wish to visit Hiroshima in 2020. Thus, I would like to welcome his visit to Hiroshima.
In the press conference, Mr. Guterres stated the visit will be his strong commitment to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. I would like to express my deepest respect for his determination and action.
If U.N. Secretary General would visit Hiroshima and disseminate messages in the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing to Hiroshima, I believe it would increase the momentum toward realizing a peaceful international society free from nuclear weapons, which is a earnest wish of Hiroshima citizens.
