New Zealand was actively involved in the process of adopting the TPNW, and has already ratified it. It has also proactively advocated promotion of nuclear disarmament at various fora, including the UN General Assembly. It has engaged in promoting the CTBT’s entry into force, and developing its verification systems. It expressed the sense of urgency regarding standstill and deterioration of nuclear disarmament on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the entry into force of the NPT. It is one of the members of the “De-alerting Group,” which actively proposes that alert levels be reduced. |
