Mexico has played a leading role in promoting the issue on the humanitarian dimensions of nuclear weapons, as well as adopting the TPNW to which it is a state party. Mexico also participates in the IPNDV.

Mexico is also a state party to the Latin America Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty. Mexico acceded to the IAEA Additional Protocol, but a broader conclusion has not yet been drawn.

Mexico has ratified all nuclear security-related conventions and established a national implementation system for A/CPPNM. They last hosted an IPPAS mission (follow-up mission) in 2006 and have participated in many INFCIRC initiatives.
