Hiroshima for Global Peace

Debriefing Session of the Youth Caravan from Hiroshima

On Friday, January 5, 2024, Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe) held a debriefing session of the Youth Caravan from Hiroshima. At the session, the youth who had been dispatched to G7 countries from the end of October to early December 2023 gave presentations about what they had felt at their destinations and what they would like to work on in the future.

Presentation on Achievements

United Kingdom and France Course

  • The program has made us feel that interaction in foreign countries serves as a great help for the future. Whether in Hiroshima Prefecture or not, we’d like to become role models who can carry out peace activities in our respective fields.
  • Aiming to serve as immediate role models, we would like to eliminate the tendency to think that “there is almost nothing to be achieved by a person like me” and draw further attention to the G7 Hiroshima Summit and Hiroshima Prefecture.

United States and Canada Course

  • The interaction with students from the U.S. and Canada has made us aware that even though our backgrounds are different, we can share views on peace.
  • On the other hand, because the social issues that should be prioritized differ depending on the country or region, the emphasized views of peace vary widely. Accordingly, in order to solve global issues, we would like to continue to learn about cultural and social situations, understand diverse “views of peace,” and present specific policy recommendations, regardless of scale.

Germany and Italy Course

  • The interaction with people of the same generation from other countries was significant. Not only did we talk about nuclear weapons and peace, but we also learned about facts that we had not known, enabling us to see things from a new perspective. We would like to continue to have discussions across borders and deepen our understanding.
  • By engaging in dialogue at the schools that we visited and holding a panel exhibition, we have realized that there are different perspectives for various problems. We feel that to solve global issues, it is important to consider different perspectives.

Participants in the caravan will continue to post information on Instagram, so please take a look.
