Visit to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
On Saturday, December 2, 2023, the program participants visited the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Established on May 12, 2005, south of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, this memorial is dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
On the site are 2,711 stone monuments of different sizes and heights lined up in a grid, indicating that many Jews lost their lives due to the persecution at the time.
In the memorial tour, the participants were given an explanation not only of the sacrifice of many Jewish people but also of the circumstances leading to the erection of the memorial, as well as its unique features, which cannot be found in Japan. The participants seemed to have felt the significant role played by the memorial in helping to achieve international peace and prevent the same tragedy of history.
