Hiroshima for Global Peace

Session2 Summary

Ensuring equitable access to essential medical supplies anytime, anywhere, for anyone in the world

There has been a major disequilibrium in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines among countries.

According to the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), of the vaccine doses administered up to July 19, 2021, low-income countries have received a meager 14.4%.

Meanwhile, leading countries are expressing their intention to expand their support for other countries at the Vaccine Summit on June 2, the 47th G7 Summit, and other occasions. Given the prospect of more pandemics sparked by unknown infectious diseases due to climate change, prompt development, manufacturing, and supply of essential medical supplies, including vaccines, is expected to assume greater importance.

We will discuss ways for businesses and the civic sector to give everyone in the world access to essential medical supplies, such as COVID-19 vaccines.
