Visit to the Embassy of Japan in the United Kingdom

On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, the program participants visited the Embassy of Japan in the United Kingdom. At the embassy, Minister Okazaki gave participants lectures about the relationship between the UK and Japan, its history, the UK’s politics and economy, and the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

The participants asked questions about the necessity of understanding the histories and situations of other countries when proceeding with diplomacy. Minister Okazaki answered: “To implement diplomatic policy, it is important to gain support from our own country, but it is also necessary to gain support from other countries. To do so, it is necessary to understand the historical backgrounds of other countries and the views of their citizens before approaching the countries.”

Minister Okazaki also gave the participants advice for their future activities by stating that they should visit as many countries and regions as possible while young and ensure opportunities to meet many people and share values and views.
