Now the international community faces three existential threat, the pandemic of infectious disease, climate change, and nuclear weapons. These issues have commonality, meaning that they are risks for the sustainable future of humankind, also challenges that the international community must work together to solve.
Among these three threat, the impact brought by nuclear weapons is tremendously high. Once nuclear weapons were used, the achievement of the most or all of the UN sustainable development goals would be desperate.
Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe) is working on the establishment of the “Nuclear Weapon Free Future Group”, together with the international NGOs, institutions, and individuals. “Nuclear Weapon Free Future Group” discusses the issues of nuclear weapons from the perspectives of environment, society, and economy, considering the inter-connectedness between nuclear disarmament and sustainability
Overall, the “Nuclear Weapon Free Future Group” will take part in the post-SDGs negotiation process, in order to include the “abolition of nuclear weapons” into the agenda.
Currently, the HOPe is preparing for the establishment of the “Nuclear Weapon Free Future Group”, with the concerning organizations and individuals, having meetings, sharing information
