Hiroshima for Global Peace

Visit to the Liceo Scientifico Statale A. Volta High School

On Monday, December 4, 2023, the program participants visited Liceo Scientifico Statale A. Volta High School and engaged in an interaction event with local high school students.

At the event, program participants Himari Ideno and Hanna Mochizuki gave presentations about the G7 Hiroshima Summit, the reality of the atomic bombing, and their own peace efforts.
Ms. Ideno spoke about the fact that a single atomic bomb had killed many students going to her high school in those days and their teachers. She also shared her experience of participating in the junior conference held during the G7 Hiroshima Summit and preparing an outcome document. Ms. Mochizuki spoke about her experience of participating in the Model United Nations in Singapore and attending a conference on global issues, such as the advancement of women’s status.

The interaction after the presentations featured a discussion on various topics, such as the North-South economic disparity, which is raising a concern in Italy, and the impact on Italy caused by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. While engaging in the discussion, Japanese students showed local students how to fold an origami crane, making the interaction more enjoyable.
