Hiroshima shows us how the use of a nuclear weapon caused such tragic results as the first atomic bombed place in human history. On the other hand, Hiroshima also tells us that it is possible to rebuild from the ruins if we could maintain peace. Acknowledging its role and mission to contribute the international peace based on Hiroshima’s symbolism, “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan was formulated in 2011 and we take initiatives for the abolition of nuclear weapons and building peace.

　However, in order to realize the peaceful world without nuclear weapons, it is necessary to collaborate with all people and sectors including national and local governments, economic sector, research institutions, universities, NGOs and the civil society. It is also necessary to increase supporters and accelerate peace initiatives.

 　Therefore, Hiroshima Prefecture opens the website, “Hiroshima for Global Peace” as an information hub of peace. The website can be a signpost for people who want to “learn” and “take action” toward a peaceful international community free of nuclear weapons in order them to think their own issues of the abolition of nuclear weapons, reconstruction and building peace. Then, I hope supporters increase. Moreover, it is important to learn the current situation and issues of international society and initiatives toward the abolition of nuclear weapons. You can learn not only the realities of atomic bombing on Hiroshima destroyed by a nuclear weapon and reconstruction from the ruins but also the present initiatives of nuclear disarmament, the support from Hiroshima to area reconstructing from the destruction by conflicts. You can also learn human resource development to youth of next generation and research to eliminate nuclear weapons.

　To realize a world without nuclear weapons is Hiroshima’s mission and role as a place that experienced the first atomic bombing in human history. Moreover, we, living in the present era, should leave the future for the next generation.

　Through the website, I would like you to “learn” the reality that any use of nuclear weapons only creates the hell and the unwisdom to depend on nuclear deterrence. I also would like you to “participate” in various initiatives and “work” together.
